Captain Raghu Raman is an individual that requires very little introduction. He has had one of the most unique career profiles spanning over 25 years. Raghu served for eleven years in the Indian Armed Forces, followed by another eleven years in the Indian corporate sector before joining the Government of India as the CEO of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID). Currently, he serves as the Group President (Risk, Security, and New Ventures) of Reliance Industries Ltd.
Raghu began his career with the Indian Army where he was deployed in active combat areas in Punjab battling terrorists, and in the Siachen Glacier where he faced the Pakistani Troops. In addition to this, he served as a UN Peacekeeper and an instructor at the School of Armored Warfare where he taught leadership and strategy to budding officers.
In 1998, Raghu joined the Indian corporate sector with the Mahindra Group where he helped set up the Mahindra United World College. During his tenure with the Mahindra Group, he led various companies such as First Choice, Mahindra SSG, and DLSI – a joint venture with British Aerospace – before being responsible for the creation of NATGRID and heading it.
Today, apart from being President of Reliance Industries’ Risk, Security, and New Ventures, Raghu is a frequent guest faculty at various business schools, a keynote speaker, and author of a column on National Security Strategy and Leadership with leading publications. In addition to this, he is also a Distinguished Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation and the author of “Everyman’s War” – a book published by Random House.
